The Loka Story
Where Conversations Become Curriculum
The Question That Started Everything
No two brains are alike — so why can’t learning be more adaptive? This question drove 23 years of language teaching, thousands of lessons, and countless iterations. The answer became LokaLingo.
What’s in a Name?
Loka comes from Sanskrit लोक (loka), meaning ‘world’ or ‘place.’ Combined with lingua (Latin for ‘language’), LokaLingo means ‘a world of language’ — a place where every learner’s world shapes their curriculum.
The Living Textbook
The heart of LokaLingo is The Living Textbook. When a learner speaks in conversation, the teacher captures key moments on the Canvas. AI then transforms those captured moments into personalized review material, quizzes, and spaced repetition. Every conversation becomes a stepping stone.
The Three Pillars
Everything we build rests on three pillars:
Nurture — A co-active learning environment where mistakes are celebrated, not feared.
Guide — CEFR-aligned adaptive assessment that gives learners and educators a clear path forward.
Accelerate — AI-powered tools that make practice efficient, targeted, and engaging.
Built by Educators, for Educators
LokaLingo wasn’t born in a tech incubator. It was born in a classroom. After 23 years running Accent Language School in Japan and delivering over 17,000 lessons, we built the tool we wished existed. The Living Textbook is that tool.
The Vision
LokaLingo is just the beginning. We’re building toward a platform where every type of learning — languages, leadership, professional skills — benefits from The Living Textbook philosophy. Today it’s language learning. Tomorrow it’s an ecosystem.
